If early crowds are an indicator, we expect Easton’s downtown to be busier than ever this Spring and Summer, as businesses open, vaccinations are widely available, and events return. We are excited about CommUNITY Day, when, on May 15, many non-profit Easton-based organizations are coming together again for a spring version of their highly successful inaugural 2020 CommUNITY Day event, held last November. Margaret Enloe, Executive Director of Waterfowl Chesapeake stated, “And we have the same collective goal as last time—celebrating and supporting our community as it is today—rich in diversity, art, nature, and culture.”
Also, on May 15, Easton Arts District Culture Crossing will return, celebrating the diversity of Easton’s neighborhoods along Easton’s Rails to Trails. This open-air style market will feature art made or performed by locals of different cultures and ethnicities. There will also be fun activities for the kids and delicious foods to enjoy.
In other downtown news, 26 Easton Main Street businesses received $9,500 COVID business relief grants. The money was part of $7 million in grants awarded to Maryland’s 33 Main Street communities earlier this year. Jeff Schneider, president of Discover Easton, said they applied for the money in November and received the second-largest grant in the state outside of Baltimore.
Lastly, the Easton Economic Development Corporation has two positions open, the Director of Downtown Development and Communications Intern.
